Wren's Holiday: The End

Well, another project that crumbles..

SL is unforgiving. But it's been fun, and I'll keep the blog around for a while. There are some key ideas here (having these meta-characters that anyone can play) that could be a part of a solution to the SL attention deficit.


I could even start this again.. the idea had its merits.

02.01 Fireplace at night. "Ronald, wait...I'm not sure..."

Deep in the night between Day 1 and Day 2 Ronald and Marya meet in the hall of the cottage, in front of the fireplace. Drugs! Sex! Drama!

Ronald Rizzato looks at the fireplace, still there seems to be enough wood. The room is warm but the sight is enough to give him the shivers. Wind is hitting the mountains hard, and he thinks about the car. The shape of the thing that made him steer, what kind of animal could that have been? Anyway he could not bring himself to sleep. The house was quiet, and he kept the radio at the lowest volume. He thinks at the girls sleeping on the next floor. Perhaps he could masturbate or smoke a joint. Or both. That would make him sleep! He starts to rubs himself, closes his eyes, when he hears a noise. He stands quickly, thankful for the book in his hands, it's dark and she's seen nothing, has she? "Marya." his voice is sticky with fatigue. "Hey. can't sleep too?"

Marya P. is midway through a yawn as she hears Ronald's voice and breaks off abruptly, a little surprised to hear anyone else awake. She walks over and leans an arm on the couch, keeping her tired tone relatively low to avoid waking Wren. "Yeah...just a little jumpy still, you know?" She leans to look over Ronald's shoulder at the book, her dark hair brushing his cheek. "What'cha reading?"

Ronald Rizzato flips over the cover of the book. "Oh, nothing." He takes a deep breath, the knot in his pants untying. He looks at the words in the dim light. Upside down. He turns the book the right way, then steps to her and passes it in her hands. "Norvegian Wood. Murakami. It makes me sleep, I've read it many times. But this time," he walks on to the kitchen, talk without looking at her. "this time it does not seem up to the task. I'm sure you need a glass of water." He says filling one for her. "Have you looked outside. The wind makes me shiver. I haven't even been able to take my jacket off." The glass is in her hands and he sits by the fire.

How to play Day 2 and 3.

The Cottage

As you (who?) all know, the action is now - at the end of Day 1 - moving to the cottage.

Now where IS the cottage in SL?

Well, the answer is: wherever you want to play it. I don't care if if looks different from time to time. The only things to remember are:

• The cottage has 2 double bedrooms and a large common area with kitchen.
• There is plenty of space outside, with no other houses in view, high mountains and snow.

We can play it at the HARP platform (you should know how to TP there) with the rezzer. You can use

• Third screen, loft 2 is good for the inside - though only people with HTM land privileges can change the background to mountain.
  Fourth screen, winter cabin for the outside (no bedrooms tho)
• Last screen, winter wonderland for outside scenes (a bit strange with the dome, oh well)

Other places where we could, um, squat, include:

• Taloha (take the cable car!) - a little too many buildings, but looking good. (the cable car passes through a private area - but there's plenty of time to move away)
• Ski sims
• Last but not least,  from AM Radio - best snowing in SL.

01.01 The trip to the cottage "Marya, do you see some.."

First Day 1 scene! For the first time - all the main characters together!

Marya Petrov waves a hand dismissively: "You worry too much about your car, Wren! Don't worry, your daddy can always have it cleaned."

Wren rolls her eyes "oh sure .... he will ... but we drive to drive back and I do not want to ruin my skirt. You can not imagine what I paid for it"

Marya Petrov's eyes drift down to Wren's skirt, quite sure she paid a lot for it. Slightly envious, she fails to notice Michael's wolfish glance: "Well, Wren, daddy will surely buy you another skirt too if that one is soiled! Anyway, don't worry so much, we're here to have fun!"

Wren rolls her eyes again "oh you get nothing! of course dad will give me every money I need for my clothes. But I really do not want to drive back in a smelling dirty skirt. thats it. Got it honey?"

Ronald. is the last to arrive. He's in a hurry, with as much luggage as he can carry. Michael gave him something to carry too, and, hidden between socks and pants, there is the stash of drugs he was in charge to prepare. "Hello everyone! Marya.. Michael.. Wren.. I hope you all didn't wait too long, hehehehe"

00.03: Marya meets Micheal. ""um now. I'm sorry, buddy, I failed you?"

Here is the third scene - This time featuring Marya and Micheal. An old episode that sees Micheal helping her in his usual cool way.

Vague D.: Federico Perenti as a pervert student.

Vague D. slips through the unguarded door, reaching into the girls changing room. He had seen Marya slip in, alone, and decided to take his chance. He could get detained, which makes it even more thrilling. Until now, he was never caught. He creeps through the doors, glancing nervously in all directions, his breath short.

Marya P. is caught up in her own thoughts, and so she doesn't notice the man watching as she slips out of her panties, giving her observer a pleasant look at her well-rounded rear as she slips into the shower. She steps back a bit as she turns on the water, half-visible behind the divider as she waits for it to warm up.

Vague D. catches sight of the girl with only her panties on. He should pull his camera but he loses the magic moment. Perhaps because he had to reposition his cock in his pants. Groaning sliently at his mistake, he finally pulls the camera out, planning to step in, when he sees Marya's clothes on the bench. He moves there, attracted by them.

Marya P. remains unaware of the intruder, her footsteps audible behind the divider as she paces in the shower, rubbing soap through her hair.

Vague D. takes a few pictures of Marya's clothes, then decides to pull a prank on her. He gets all her clothes, filling his pockets with them, then he slips in, leaning on the wall. He sets his camera on the wall - he knows the right angle from many experiments - and shoots, silently, shooting dozens of pictures, careful to listen to the water's noise.

Questions about acting

In this story, I ask people to play one of the main four characters. For many, this requires an effort - I've found that in SL most people want to play their own character. My opinion is that contributes to the feeling of disconnection and to the individualistic solipsism that makes most tentative stories fail. 

Here's me trying to convince Lydia of my point. I failed.

[14:38]  Federico Perenti: There are 4 characters in the story - all pretty stereotyped - when you are online, you just choose one, read the last scene for that one, and continue from there if you like it (if not, you just create an alternative version of the story)
[14:42]  Lidya Maven: hmm i only see one problem in that,.. each person has a way to develop a character, me myself dont usually know where lidya goes , just follow the events,... dont know if maybe the person that 'continues' with my character  doesnt like what i did, or doesnt do what i feel my charcter would do,..
[14:47]  Federico Perenti: Of course. I was the same with my character - and in my main stories, I keep doing as you say. But the fact is - this attitude restricts greatly the chance to play. So I tried simpler chars and even found them a lot of fun. Imagine as if  Lydia would be an actress - interpreting a part - simpler than her "real" character.

00.02. Wren and Micheal chatting. "should I be in the locker room?!? I could get a reputation!"

Here is the second scene - This time featuring Wren and Micheal. Short but good to understand the characters.

Wren Monday - exceptionally - as herself!

Wren Monday: should I be in the locker room?!?  I could get a reputation..!

Michael Wright: that makes sense with your character.

Wren Monday: aww...*pouts*

Michael Wright: .. and you could get something more than a reputation.

Michael Wright relaxes on the bench, sprawled in his unique cool way. He has the unique quality of seeming always at ease, as if the world was shaped around him. The boys are sweating in the gym, something that he would never be caught doing. "Wren." he just said, his voice deep and musical.

00.01 Day 0: Marya meets Ronald.

Here is the first example of play. Ronald meets Marya at college. They talk, play a soccer match, and there is something about a kiss.. and an ex-girlfriend.

Ronald walks around the soccer field and stops he sees Marya. "Hey!" He raises his hand and waves, closing distance, with a wide smile. "Hey there. " He nods towards the field. "Already done with your books? I was taking some fresh air.. Do you play soccer?"

Marya waves back to Ronald "hey. yeah it is enough today, i can´t read anything more." she looks to the soccer field "hm i am not very sporty."

Ronald moves nearer to her, but looking away, at the field. He is still worried about the preparation for the trip - Micheal was very clear in giving him a special task. "Oh, well, we will have to exercise when we get on the mountains.. do you ski? Weather should be good, at least on the first days. Say, you're eager to go?"

Day 0

This is not a single day, but a chance to play scenes "pre" mountain. Characters will discuss arrangements, tease each other, convince people to go to Wren's mountain place, etc.

Remember also that arrangement that should make drugs available (Wren has plans to experiment) need to take place. This can be used as a lure - or hidden, depending from character choice.

New rules - new universe - new play style.

So, months (RL months) have passed and we didn't start. Why, you will ask, or you will not - I will tell anyway. Well, the usual time problem. I wanted to start with a proper scene with Wren, and we never met.

This style of waiting does not work, I knew it too well from previous experiences (see the Sandon blog - I hope Grace will put that off one of these days).

So from next week we start with another approach. Bear with me. The new rules are:

- one week IRL is one day of play; the story lasts 8 days at most.

- everyone can play every part. So, you can be Ronald, Wren, Marya, or Michael - or just someone else.

Imagine the story as a set of possible worlds (link, but NSFNG - not safe for non-geeks) that will unfold in narration - or as a test that a writer is doing with its characters. You can choose if you follow up from the previous scene, or if you just play it anew, or make an alternative play.

The only common part will be the "day theme" announced at the start of the week. Please try to play - and send the plays to Federico.

Intro: Wren's Holiday

Wren's uncle owns a beautiful cottage high in the mountains. Wren has asked to be there - alone and undisturbed - to study for a week, from Saturday to Saturday.

Study.. so NOT like her. In fact what she plans is to spend a few days with close friends, that have been secretly invited. Her plan is to spend the whole week partying, dancing, and maybe more. He judiciously has not invited her boyfriend, and the group includes another girl, pretty but more reserved than she is, and two handsome boys, that she hopes will bring good things to drink and to smoke.

The place is hidden in the mountain and reachable only with a very good jeep - but she makes a wrong last turn and breaks her own car. Not too much of a trouble since the others are coming Sunday morning with another car... right?

How does it work

Actors and the script

This story is played in Second Life by a bunch of characters, that we can consider as actors. They have a character description and a draft script - however, they do not know in advance all the details of the story. So, this is not a complete freeform play - if the story needs one character to die in the third act, then that character WILL die. The fun is in the interpretation, not in a power struggle.

Flow of time

As in a 24 issue - or as in the Big Brother - this story is always under the camera. Time can flow directly on the blog (unplayed scenes) or in SL (played scenes)

Presence
The location is conveniently separated in different rooms. Players that arent' present in SL when a scene is played are supposed to be sleeping (maybe drugged, or something worse) in another room.

Name: Ronald Rizzato, Michael's friend

Ronald (called Ron) is a quick, nervous man, too quick for his own good. He comes from an ordinary family, and does several part-time jobs to work to make ends meet. He's made friends with Michael, fascinated by his way with women - he got to console several of his girls, and broke the heart of some. And of course, fascinated with money too.

Drug usage: He has the contact with the dealer that Michael uses. However, he's trying to keep as clean as he can, knowing better than risking to get an addiction way over his economical resources. He has no objections, however, to be in company of people using drugs - especially girls like Wren.

Sexual experience: more daring than Micheal, he likes anything about sex.

Name: Michael Wright. Student.

Michael is the only kid of a wealthy family, dealing in import/export of frozen food. He's not very interested in business, and a worry for his father, that fears he will burn away the family's resource; he always tends to live above his means.

Sexual experience: Michael is very good at getting girls in his bed. He can make them laugh, being a good sport, and naturally at the center of attention. He acts in a relaxed, totally self assured way.

However, he can't keep a relation going for long; partly because of temptations, partly because his partners find him rather boring after the first month. He's still young and he likes things this way.

In bed, he is an intense but quick lover. He likes to have his women on all four. He dreams to have both girls during the holiday, to see them having sex together. He would not like to share them with Ron - he does not like to see cocks of other men - but would likely tolerate his friend's presence.

Drug usage: Michael won't say no to a bit of experimentation. He's flaunting his experience with Wren, who asked him to provide the drugs for the holiday. However, paying enough for four persons - and he can't delude Wren - was more than he could afford. So, he struck a deal with the devil, obtaining a large stock of pot, cocaine, and multicolored pills. Two of them, however, are reserved for a specific night.

Okay, so I'm supposed to write this thing about life or school or whatever, and I don't really get it but fine, here goes.

I mean, I didn't really want to go to college. I was happy working with Daddy, at the shipyard, and yeah sure I didn't actually DO very much, but it was OK. Until I got a little older and the guys on the dock started to, like, whistle at me and BOY did Daddy not like that, nooooo! So naturally I worked it just to wind Daddy up, wore my short shorts on hot days and stuff lol. But then there was that one creepy guy who followed me back where they have all the shipping containers, and... well, Daddy fired him.

Anyway, my parents have this whole "immigrant" thing where the kids are supposed to become doctors and lawyers and, whatever, I'm SO not into that! But college isn't so bad, it's not hard cause I'm majoring in boys and dance team lol. And the girls at the sorority are GREAT, they totally know how to party, there's always booze in the house and they know so many guys. I like the tall hunky all-American guys who, like, tower over me cause I'm pretty small. And naturally they think I'm gonna do that "me love you long time" asian girl thing and then they're surprised when I talk and I'm just as American as they are.

Anyhoo, I am SO looking forward to spending some time up at Wren's cabin! She has such great taste and she's almost as bitchy as I am looool. I want to forget about school and just hang out and party and I totally need to work on my tan. I sure hope there's a big deck in the sun. I wonder whether it's too early to have a little drink.

What do you enjoy most about Role Playing?  (Letting someone else's imagination run wild...on me...and going to all the unforseen places it might lead!  The sharing of fantasies is HOT.)

She's on the dance squad at school, which is kinda a joke (not the cheerleaders; they are way too athletic) and is a member if Chi-O Sorority, based  on alumnus status and $ from her fam.   She goes to classes, and her sorority functions, and it's only when she can go out at night, across town, that her partying and slightly illegal social group of late can meet up with her.
On nights when she decides to grab cash for another sack of fun  or some other fun recreational pharmaceuticals, she'll work at the Busybody as "Bambi," and she's discovered that her dance squad uniform and her old School Uniform bring in UBERtips.  Since she's so carefree, she'll traipse in and out of work to home before changing (despite being told not to)...but since she lives alone without college neighbors, she has no fear that this could make her secret life scandalously public.
